Novitom awarded at the 2020 innovation competition i-NOV!

Novitom has been awarded during the 2020 innovation competition i-NOV!

The prize rewards work on the implementation of  of artificial intelligence algorithms for the processing and analysis of 3D X-ray tomography images for industry (3D-NEXCT).

The 3D-NEXCT project is part of the « PIA3 Programme d‘Investissement d’Avenir ».

About the 3D-NEXCT project

The 3D-NEXCT project aims to develop the very first artificial intelligence (AI) for industrial 3D imaging using X-ray tomography (CT). The industrial twin of the medical scanner, X-ray CT is currently the only technology capable of measuring both the internal and external geometry of an object without the need to cut or destroy it. It has reached the technological maturity to be integrated into industrial processes, as demonstrated by the growing range of industrial CT equipment available in recent years.

A powerful 3D inspection tool, it can be used to optimise new processes or for non-destructive quality control in all sectors, including aerospace, automotive, energy and electronics. Despite all its advantages, industrial CT remains largely under-employed, partly because of its technological cost, but mainly because of a lack of knowledge and expertise. By integrating the latest advances in artificial intelligence into industrial CT, Novitom aims to drastically simplify its use and contribute to the development of new technologies.

What are the advantages of synchrotron X-ray microtomography?

++ Non-invasive measurements

SR-μCT reveals the microstructures of delicate objects without damaging them.

++ Statistical analysis of features within  the 3D numerical twin

Microtomography data is analysed by our experts using algorithms and methodologies developed in-house. The microstructures of interest are isolated (a process known as segmentation), and calculations and measurements are then performed: volumes, surfaces, counts, morphologies, thicknesses, orientations.
