Initiation to X-ray tomography : non-destructive investigation and material chracterisation

Objectifs pédagogiques

Acquérir les connaissances élémentaires pour comprendre ce que les différents types d’équipement de tomographie X peuvent apporter en termes de CND et de caractérisation 3D des matériaux.

Connaître et ajuster les paramètres clés permettant d’optimiser la qualité d’image à des fins de détection de défauts et visualisation de la microstructure des matériaux.

  • Presentation of the different existing assemblies: industrial tomograph, micro and nano-focus source, synchrotron source, 4D tomography
  • Influence of parameters on image quality: energy, spatial resolution, filters, sample positioning, etc.
  • Some keys for acquisition optimisation, artifact reduction

 
Case studies for materials characterisation and NDT

  • Inspection and quality control of parts: health-material control, dimensional control, defect detection, leak paths, etc.
  • Extraction of quantitative data: volume fractions, porosimetry, inclusions, fibre orientation, internal roughness, etc.

 
Practical work

  • Each participant will perform several virtual tomographies with the simulation software Novi-Sim.
